It’s Almost Fall, but KDOG Continues to Spring Forward

KDOG’s efforts to bring an off-leash park to Kirkland were in full force all summer. We spent a year planning the very successful 2nd Annual Go Dog, Go! Kirkland Canine Festival. This fundraiser (on July 24th) brought together families and their canines for a day of contests, canine sports demonstrations and try-its, canine-freestyle dancing, wonderful shopping, time to meet local vets, trainers, and other canine friendly businesses. We were fortunate to be supported by fabulous sponsors, vendors, and GREAT volunteers! KDOG also benefitted from the support of Dooley’s Dog House, http://www.dooleysdoghouse.com/, where we raised $1,000 towards the Wetlands Study that needed to be completed at the proposed dog park site. Seattle Veterinary Specialists, http://www.svsvet.com/,  made the very generous contribution of funding the rest of the cost of the Wetlands Study, and we are thrilled that the study was completed in August. (Yes, we now know there is adequate space for an off-leash area at the proposed dog park site). We’re also very grateful for a significant donation we received from Darwin’s Natural Pet Products, http://www.darwinspet.com/ . Big THANK YOU to all of our sponsors and donors. Please support the businesses that support KDOG!!! Now anyone can make a donation to the dog park fund, just click on “Donate” on the KDOG.org homepage.

KDOG’s Fall Agenda is in full swing. We’ll spend tomorrow at the Denny Creek Neighborhood Alliance’s Denny Fest, www.dennycreek.org, sharing information about KDOG’s mission. We are making preparations for the October 13th Park Board Public Hearing regarding the proposed dog park site. Plan to be there to tell the Park Board that you are ready to take on the responsibility of a dog park, through fundraising, stewardship, etc.

Do you know of a business that would be interested in helping KDOG with a design plan, fencing, labor, ground cover, etc. for a dog park? If so, please email KDOG at kdog@kdog.org.

Don’t forget to sign up very soon for our November 14th Barksgiving Fundraiser at the Dining Dog Café (click on EVENTS on the homepage.) Take a little time with other dog lovers to say thanks to your BEST FRIEND at this very special 5 course meal for your dog. We are also asking that everyone bring a pet food donation to Barksgiving to donate to Hopelink. We want to fill their shelves full of pet food for their clients with pets. What better way to start the holiday season!
